All Rights Reserved. We have issued some fixes to make your game more stable. Despite what the developers claim, the AI definitely cheats. For example: I was playing the other day, and my long 5-ship was hit in the center spot.

And this happens all the time. It strikes the middle of a ship, but it somehow knows it hits the middle and finishes one end and magically switches to the other end after the perfect amount of hits in the first direction, never getting a miss, and miraculously sinking the ship all in one turn.

On the good side; game play is very fast, graphics are sharp and the game seems to be stable. But some pretty big knocks on the minus side. After living with this for a couple weeks I have a couple additional gripes. First, when playing sequential games, especially after forfeiting a game, a crash is almost a sure thing. I know this is common with AIs because mostly, computers are stupid. But the cheating here is shameful; you get a follow up shot when ever you score a hit.

At this point, I call it unplayable against the AI. First, the AI modes are very annoying. The way that it hits a ship and then knows exactly how to finish it is baffling. It will hit a ship in the middle, finish one way and then magically switch to the other and sink the ship. Why would you program an AI experience to feel like being cheated?

Second, the current rules do not follow the traditional ones. Their new rules allow another shot if a hit is recorded. I prefer the original version where each player gets one shot per turn, regardless of outcome.

There should be the option available for either way. Third, I would prefer a system that would let me highlight where I want to shoot and then hit a button to confirm.

I often select the wrong square because they are so small. Requires iOS 9.The last part of this is confusing, so I might need help clearing it up. However, the captain who opposed her earlier responded.

Another captain spoke up. An unsightly retreat or a shameful defeat are undeniably similar. We just have to give them 5 star systems. Cutting off voice communication and leaving only video. She spoke up. Do you know what the consequences of passing over those star systems is?

The other me answered. It was stolen from the alliance originally and they have tried repeatedly to take it back. However, the other 3 are a problem. They have submitted to the empire for thousands of years. The empire is undeniably huge, but in reality it is an aggregation of many star systems.

As such each system believes their peace is protected by the empire. The meeting continued and the captains agreed with the prince one after another.

A few disagreed, but they were quickly shot down. He said that he had negotiated with the alliance fleet. However, my sensors did not pick up any communication with the alliance. In this fight, the 1st and 2nd princes were killed. Although they could not hear any sound, they could see that she was panicked. He believes the empire to be immortal, immovable. This chapter is a lot shorter than the previous chapter.

The next chapter is a little longer, but they generally stay aroundwords. I ignored her and reconfirmed the situation. Information from innumerable cameras and sensors onboard and outboard are organised in my head. Necessary information is relayed to me from time to time.

Adjustments to engine output, control of the defense system, energy distribution to life support systems and countless other tasks are being processed at the same time. The outboard sensor is tracking the five enemy battlecruisers targeting me.

I am a product of a time when warfare technology had evolved far more than now. So my basic performance should be even higher for the same type of ship. Nonetheless, the number of opponents being five is quite severe.

Where did the original convoy go? The 7th Imperial Fleet was destroyed 15 minutes ago. The operation was a great strategy to bring to conclusion the long fight between the Empire and the Alliance. The total number of ships was including the flagship.

Battleship AI – Chapter 5

The place chosen for the battle was the Shaka star system, deep in Alliance territory. According to the intelligence department, the largest military base in the Alliance is situated here. The entire star system is a huge shipbuilding factory, if it was somehow destroyed, the Alliance would have no choice but to surrender. By using a jump point that the Alliance was not aware of. The imperial fleet was supposed to suddenly emerge and begin slaughtering the Alliance fleet. In fact, the moment we appeared from the jump point, the majority of the fleet stopped functioning.

An explosion occurred on the bridge of the command ship and many general officers lost their lives. From there, a combined fleet ambushed us destroying countless ships in the process. Many ships tried to escape hopelessly. The number of remaining ships in the Imperial fleet is the flagship, 6 battleships, 28 battlecruisers, 57 destroyers, cruisers. They are all completely separated from one another and are currently being chased by 5 to 6 Alliance ships per Imperial ship.

Whilst monitoring the situation, the battlecruiser Ballaidin fell.

A direct hit to the fusion reactor, it disappeared in a dazzling flash. The battleship Mudasco was currently being chased by 10 battlecruisers and 2 battleships. All power was suddenly lost. The belly of the cruisers opened and an assault party rushed out. They flew towards the Mudasco one after another.

Construction costs are also enormous.

Taxes for one year on any one of the colonial planets is just enough to fund one battleship. However, they were always look to reduce the cost of building and could not miss an opportunity to capture an enemy battleship. Temporary Captain Sohara shouted my name. She was talking to me on the intercom and not the bridge speaker.Okay, so I am creating a battleship game, I posted a thread here earlier to figure out how to place the ships, but know I'm back, because I am curious as to how I should program the AI for it.

Here's my base code now, and I'll explain how the board is used. I left out all the user input stuff, so it's shorter. Any critique on my code would be appreciated.

Also, I just would like to know some good tactics for battleship, and how to go about doing it. I've been here for a few days now, and I'm at a lost, and google doesn't really seem to help me much. Then divide the remaining rows by 2, etc. But I am not a battleship player. And thank you for the links, that helps me a lot. I'll think about a way first though. I won't mark this thread as solved until I get my program finished, and I'll come back in and update with how it's coming along.

Would you like to see this question answered quickly?A remarkably inquisitive artificial-intelligence system developed by a team of researchers at NYU has learned to play a game similar to Battleship with mind-blowing skill.

Their program figures out how to ask these questions as efficiently as possible. The program treats questions as miniature programs, allowing it to learn from just a few examples and to construct its own questions on the basis of what it has learned.

The researchers describe the work in a paper posted online. The researchers had humans play their game and recorded the questions they asked. They then translated the questions into conceptual components. The researchers then encoded these questions using a simple programming language and built a probabilistic model to determine which questions should yield the most useful information.

This methodology allowed the AI system to efficiently construct novel questions that helped it win the game. Most AI approaches involve simply feeding a computer huge quantities of example data and having it generate its own examples after that. The system also builds smart questions in a more methodical way, and it can even produce questions that no human thought to ask.

The researchers are exploring how their technology might make chatbots and other dialogue system more effective and less painful to use.

With a little preprogramming, such a system might be able to help customers solve their problem more quickly by posing the right questions. This consisted of asking an opponent to go through a series of mathematical steps, adding the length of one ship to 10 times the length of the next and so on. Such a question would be difficult for a person to follow or to answer correctly, but in theory the result could be used to back-calculate the entire board. Sam Gershmanan assistant professor at Harvard University who develops approaches to AI inspired by cognitive neuroscience, says the NYU research provides insights into how humans think up good questions.

Gershman adds that humans seem to follow a similar strategy to the more successful approach employed by the program, carefully assessing the complexity of their questions in order to use cognitive resources sparingly.

That begins with asking probing questions. Skip to Content. Latest content Load more.By using our site, you acknowledge that you have read and understand our Cookie PolicyPrivacy Policyand our Terms of Service. The dark mode beta is finally here. Change your preferences any time.

EDIT 2: Since there has been significant interest in persisting stats to disk and such, I have added a few non-timed set-up and tear-down events that should provide the required functionality. This is a semi-breaking change.

That is to say: the interface has been modified to add functions, but no body is required for them. Bug Fix 2: If an engine was timing out every game, the competition would never end.

I second the motion to do a lot more games per match. Doing 50 games is just flipping a coin. I needed to do games to get any reasonable distinction between test algorithms. Download Dreadnought 1. The GetShot algorithm has two parts, one which generates random shots and the other which tries to finish sinking an already hit ship.

We do random shots if there is a possible position from the list above in which all hit ships are sunk. Otherwise, we try to finish sinking a ship by picking a location to shoot at which eliminates the most possible positions weighted. For random shots, compute best location to shoot based on the likelihood of one of the unsunk ships overlapping the location.

Instead of using a fixed geometry-inspired strategy, I thought it would be interesting to attempt to estimate the underlying probabilities that any particular unexplored space holds a ship. To do this right, you'd explore all possible configurations of ships that fit your current view of the world, and then compute probabilities based on those configurations. You could think of it like exploring a tree:. After considering all leaves of that tree that jive with what you know about the world e.

One thing I like about this Battleship competition is that the tree above is almost small enough to brute-force this kind of algorithm.

battleship ai

And that number only gets smaller, especially if you can eliminate whole ships. The opponent that I linked to above doesn't explore the whole tree; 75 billion is still to big to get in under a second. It does attempt to estimate these probabilities, though, with the help of a few heuristics.

Not a fully fledged answer but there seems little point cluttering the real answers with code that is common.

If you use these then please change the namespace or trying to compile everything into one dll isn't going to work.Vega spoke up. Both of them were trying to hide their voices just now and the intercom was turned off. However, the bridge speakers were still working. What are you doing!? Curiously, I switched to the bridge camera.

The other me brought up his data. First started serving at the age of 18 and has been on the forefront of many Imperial conflicts. In the battle of the Dni system 2 years ago, his battlecruiser took out an enemy battleship. The scars running from his forehead to his right cheek are from that time. Currently serving as the first officer on the battlecruiser Ajax. Without the royal status of Princess Sohara, he would have been promoted to temporary captain.
